Shanghai Night Market

Yunnan Lu Road Night Market specialises mainly in noodles but be prepared for all manner of other foods, the bizarre included.
Stall holders provide snappy service and make something of a show as they juggle their pots and woks. It takes literally seconds for a noble grandma to prepare the noodles from scratch, string them out and serve them up,but they are absolutely delicious.

The noodles are by and large fat, flat and white. They are easy to identify. The unusual additions you can sometimes encounter include duck's tongue(Very popular local dish) and deep fried scorpions amongst others and are not so easy to spot. The long and short of it being - make sure you have something of a grasp of Mandarin(The official Chinese), or an adventurous palate. A common error is to ask for ''meifan'' instead of ''mifan''. The former means trouble, the latter means rice.
You'd better bring a guide with you otherwise be prepared to get lost in the crowd of Yunnan Lu Road Night Market .
